"What can I do to give my butt that, you know, Brazil Butt look?"
I hear that question all the time. Yes, I'm a trainer. And I hear a lot of women ask me a lot of tough (almost impossible) questions. And that question is one of my favorites.
Here's what I told her.
So, what does it take to make a butt round, firm and supported? It takes exercising of certain muscles in the right order and with the right level of intensity. Butt exercises are intricate, and the amount of commitment that it takes is usually at a level beyond what most people are willing to sign up for.
I've compiled a list of tricks and tips that will give you a butt lift.
To get a non-surgical Brazil butt lift, work out on ALL the muscles in your butt. "All the muscles? You mean there's more than the gluteus maximus?"
First a little butt physiology: here are the major muscles in your butt, all of them "glutei". There's the gluteus maximus (the most famous), the gluteus medius, and the gluteus minumus.
1) When you target them properly and work them together, they tighten, lift and grow. The trick is to work the complementary muscles, too. For example, when you're developing your bicep, you have work the tricep; when you work the quads, you have to work the hamstrings. The butt muscles are the same.
2) Have you ever noticed when exercising that sometimes you do a couple of squats, feel the burn, and then think you're done? Feeling the burn in your gluteus maximus is important, but it's not the whole story. You have to work all the muscles together.
3) You're not the same as the woman next to you. Your booty is different from hers. It will have a different reaction to the exercise. You have to exercise according to your own body type and your own personal goals. Have you ever noticed that in an exercise class in a gym everyone is doing the same thing? Same exercises, same number of reps, same number of sets as everyone else. With all this sameness, how can you expect personalized results? Your butt lift workout will depend on where you start and what your desired outcome is. Find a program and make it your personal butt lift workout.
